The academic year commenced on November2014. Regular classes started on 12th December 2014, with an intake of 100 students in 5 optional subjects. The current academic year has been an year of blessings in academics, arts and sports.

MANAGEMENT

St. Xavier’s Training College for Women is among the various institutions managed by the Congregation of Teresian Carmelite Educational Agency headed by Rrev. Mother Liza, the present Superior General and General Manager. Rev. Sr. Francina was the correspondent and local manager from 2005 to 2015, Dr. Sr. Soosamma kavumpurath has been appointed as the new local manager.

STAFF

The college is adequated staffed with qualified teachers in all areas of the curriculum. All staff members contributed significantly for the realization of mission, vision and goals of the college. The vacancies left unfilled in Mathematics and Natural Science were filled in by the appointment of Ms. Haseena and Ms. Keerthy Jacob respectively.

ACTIVITIES

A variety of curricular and co-curricular activities were organized throughout the year. To the development of Social Sensitivity, open mindedness, obligations to environment, artistic qualities, talents and proper channelization of student’s energies, various clubs- Natural clubs, Social service club Literary club, women’s cell, etc. were there. These clubs organized various programs like seminars, special school visits, awareness classes, etc. Under the leadership of Nature club, students made a vegetable garden in which varieties of vegetables were planted.

A visit was made to Chavara Special School, Koonammavu and St. George School, Vadel, special schools for the differently abled, on 26 February 2015.

A three day workshop was conducted as a part of the SUPW programme for providing the trainees to know and nourish their inherent talents in painting, making decorative items and stitching.

Festivals like Christmas, Oman, St. Xavier’s day, etc. were celebrated in its true spirit. The Union also arranged various programmes on Independence day, Republic day, Environmental day, Teacher’s day and other days of national and regional importance were held among these houses.

ELECTION

The College Union election was held on January in accordance with rules and regulations laid down by M.G University. The Union under the Chairman ship of Ms. Sherin James was inaugurated on 5 February 2015. The inauguration was done by Mr. Suraj Venjaramoodu, the well known cine artist. Oath taking ceremony of the Union members took place after the inauguration.

The Sports Fest was held on 6 February 2015. Mrs. Shimy Catherine, International Volleyball Referee inaugurated the meet. Ms. Ashmi T Asharaf secured the individual championship. In the intercollegiate Sports Fest held at Kottayam on 21 February, our students bagged third prize March past.

In the All Keral B.Ed College Sports Fest held at Marangattupilly, Sr. Sruthy and team secured second prize in relay race and Athira Saju bagged second prize in high jump.

EXAMINATIONS

The First Semester examinations were completed on 9 April 2015. The Second Semester examinations will be held from 25 January 2016. Practice teaching was held from 16th October to 4th November. The trainees were sent to different schools in and around Aluva. Practical examinations were conducted on December 3rd and 4th. A team of examiners under the chairmanship of Dr. Pradeep Kumar visited the college and evaluated the students and commented positively about the performance of the students as well as the administration.

Every year, the college gives cash awards to the top scorers. The winners of the academic Year 2013-14 are:

Uma R.- The top scorer with 98% of marks from Ntural Science Optional.

Thasni M.A – Physical Science

Bini K. Paul- Social Science

Stephy Antony- Mathematics.

GRATITUDE

I take this opportunity to extend my gratitude to the staff, both teaching and non-teaching for their co-operation and timely help. I also express my deep gratitude to the principals, teachers and students of schools which accommodated our trainees for the teaching practice, especially Sr. Christina and Sr. Lislet of Holy Ghost H.s, Thottakkattukara for their generosity and timely help.

On this occasion, I express my sincere thanks to Rev.Sr. Francina the correspondent and manager during the last eleven years. I place on record the great and relentless effort and contributions rendered by Sr. Francina during her tenure as manager of this institution since to inception on 15 June 2015. Sr. Francina was a person of unparalleled devotion to duty and deep understanding. She won the hearts of the students and staff and all those who got associated with her. W e cannot forget the continuous encouragement, guidance, advice and care she had given and also the dedication and sincerity towards the development of the college.

I also acknowledge the services of the college union, club leaders and house leaders for their dynamic leadership and mutual support.

Let me conclude by thanking God Almighty for all the abundant blessing showered upon us and plentiful graces in the years to come.
